“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.” ~ Henry David Thoreau .
A beautiful sky; a strong wind; a farm getting ready to burst out with fresh produce; a glimpse of a road filled with noisy automobiles at a distance; tall grass swaying in the wind nearby; the sounds of the wind, mixed in with the sounds of automobiles and birds; a little boy pausing for a few moments from his constant physical and mental activity to become one with nature; a mother’s heart filled with wonder and gratitude towards her little boy for allowing her to notice the beauty around her…A picture perfect moment overall 💕.
The reality leading up to this moment that could not be captured in this picture is: A mother’s brain tired from an early start and a long day’s work; two excited children running around carelessly and an exhausted mother running after them trying to make sure they were safe; a bored adolescent constantly requesting to go back home and a tired mother trying to be patient and compassionate towards her; an anxious mother trying to figure out how to get her excited preschoolers out of this situation and into the car to head back home on time for the night routine so that she can get to bed at a decent time; a tired mother’s soul seeking the warmth and comfort of her bed and book….
This is parenting. This is life. It can be overwhelming and exhausting at times, but the truth is the most precious moments are also mixed in with the most chaotic moments. Life (and parenting) becomes more meaningful and fulfilling when one knows to seek and absorb those beautiful, magical moments that often go unacknowledged amidst the chaos of life 🙏🏼
