“Every day you can ask yourself, Have I helped my children understand their gifts and talents? Did I empathize with their feelings enough? Is there something I can do or say now to help strengthen our connection?”.

10 Mindful Minutes by Goldie Hawn is a quick, easy read with lots of ideas on proactively teaching mindfulness to kids. I thought the book was not well written overall, but it was a quick read so the writing style didn’t bother me as much. The mindful parenting strategies presented in this book are taken from Goldie Hawn Foundation’s MindUp program that helps kids develop the mental and emotional skills they need to succeed later on in their lives. They are backed by the results from the latest research in the field of neuroscience, which are also referenced extensively in this book.
I don’t think this book is extraordinary. It has its flaws, many of them, as a matter of fact. I found myself skipping quite a few paragraphs where Goldie was either narrating situations from her own childhood or giving the reader examples of kids who benefitted from her MindUp program. Her stories and examples, unfortunately, failed to capture my interest. That said, I feel that there is still a lot of value in reading this book. It is worth reading once, even if you find yourself skipping a few paragraphs here and there.
