Recently finished reading both these suspense thrillers back to back. Mystery was my favorite genre when I was younger. I remember inhaling Hercule Poirot, Sherlock Holmes and the likes for a few years of my life. Since then, I had several years of reading slump and when I finally got back to reading again after a few half hearted, unsuccessful attempts, I stayed away from mystery for some reason. I changed that recently by reading these two books. Now, I want more, ofcourse 😃
The Death of Mrs Westaway by Ruth Ware was an average read for me. It was a quick, easy read that I was able to get in and out of easily while multi tasking with kids and chores on a weekend. Overall, entertaining (3/5).
Ruth Ware mentioned Daphne DuMaurier’s ’Rebecca’ at the end of her book which piqued my interest in it. Rebecca was an AMAZING read! Now, this is the kind of mystery that I absolutely love. The writing was good. Character building was excellent. The whole atmosphere of Manderely was eerie and perfect for a Halloween read. Mrs Danvers’ character was downright creepy. Overall, this was a great read (4.5/5). Now, I really want to watch Alfred Hitchcock’s movie version of this book.
