There is no friend as loyal as a book. This sweet story of Mr Morris Lessmore and his fantastic flying books conveys this simple message via bright and engaging illustrations. There is a lot of depth to this story that the young readers may not be able to comprehend, but the story and illustrations were still quite engaging for all three of my kids, despite the 6 year age gap between my daughter and my boys.
As a book lover, I really appreciated all the depth in this book. People come and go, situations keep changing, the world keeps moving and changing constantly. But my books and the stories inside them, they will remain with me forever, in my heart. People will disappoint me eventually, but my books will never disappoint me. They are always there with me, by my side, no matter what situation I am in. I will carry them with me forever, from this world into another. Simply beautiful! The ending, where a little girl finds Morris’s books and starts reading them was heart warming. My books are my legacy, to my children and to the world. Last but not the least, the image of a woman flying in the sky with a bunch of books in her hand – oh, so beautiful and powerful! .
This is a great read-aloud with young children. It’s a book that the whole family can enjoy reading together. It’s definitely a book lover’s dream. There is an award winning short film about this story on YouTube that I am planning to watch soon with my family.
