Its Ok Not To Share…

This seems like a very logical and reasonable parenting guideline to me. As an adult, I often get so engrossed in my own projects that I don’t want to be disturbed at all. So, it does not make sense to me to ask a child, a younger child too for that matter, who is fully engrossed in playing with a particular toy, to share that toy with another child. Yes, it’s important for children to learn to share but the sharing can happen after the child is done playing with the toy. Also, sharing happens more naturally and easily without an adult enforcing it, as the child gets older, as I’ve seen with my own daughter. I am frustrated with how many times I am forced to fight this fight at my children’s school. Even the most experienced teachers and other educators who hold higher positions in schools do not seem to understand this 😞
